Jim's Story

Jim sees and hears music in everything he does. His songs express the experiences and emotions of human beings trying to find their place and purpose in the world. A multi-instrumentalist, his music draws from early experiences listening to Pete Seeger and Joan Baez, growing through singer/songwriters like James Taylor and Carole King, taking detours through AC/DC and Social Distortion, and finally putting all those influences together in songs that most closely identify with Alt Country with its unholy union of honkytonk rhythms and overdriven guitars.

He grew up in an extremely rural community in Northeastern California, and his songs reflect a nostalgia for real country life even as it is being swallowed up by urbanization. He lives in Tempe, AZ with his wife, Tracy, two dogs, six(!) cats, and a host of demons who give him life lessons far too often. When not playing guitar, he is a Professor of Engineering at Arizona State University.

Jim is a proud, voting member of the Cherokee Nation.
